Monsoon Season Sacramento Mountains

On our return from Tularosa Basin and White Sands, we followed the rain storm down the mountain toward Mayhill.

The normally dry "creek" at the intersection of Hwy 130 with Hwy 82 was filled with a roiling flash flood.

Several local residents were checking out the rushing water from the bridge, too.

The Rio Penasco was flowing fast, too, back at Deer Spring RV.

At the Fishing Hole (no fishing allowed)

the waterfall roared

and the rainbow graced the sky above the mountain.

PS: rainfall total by the end of July 9.90'; at the beginning of the month 2'.

July 18, driving Upper Rio Penasco Road, evidence of the rain was quite evident.

First, this fallen tree...

then, this massive mudslide west of Bluff Spring.
