Learn S'More about Camping

Saturday August 3

Today was "Learn S'More about Camping" at Quechee SP. EMS, Eastern Mountain Sports was supposed to host the event with park staff assisting with fire building and sone general cooking on the fire. When they hadn't shown up at the 11th hour - starting time - a phone call revealed what they called a corporate office failure to follow through with the local store in West Lebanon...

Whatever...
Dale and Carol, Kate, Alvin and I conducted the entire event for about 40 campers and locals who came just for the event. Carol prepared the "baked" potatoes by nuking them before wrapping them in foil. I prepared the veggie kabobs with only a shopping list. Should have wrapped them in foil with a splash of oil, would have been faster and much tastier. I also prepared Mac and Cheese, as Cabot Cheese provided shredded cheese plus loads of individual cheese bites. Dale demonstrated fire building, showing both tepee and log cabin methods of construction. Kate enlisted the attendees to assemble the tents and try out all the camping gear from EMS. Alvin's main job, after toting fire wood,  was cutting up the baked potatoes and assisting Kate in making S'Mores.

When we ran out of food, mainly because I opted out of preparing the veggie stir-fry that the EMS folks were scheduled to prepared on a portable camp stove, participants began to slowly drift away.

We barely had everything repacked and hauled back to the office when the rains came. I crashed at home with an hour long nap sitting outside with my Kindle in my lap.
