Only 5 more nights before we leave for Vermont... have to say it has been a long time coming. I'll miss friends and family but cannot say I'll miss all the traffic and trash from all the oil field.
Cold front forecast for tonight, maybe we'll get a fallout like the coast has been experiencing. Just hope they can find some green spot to rest in. Just looked outside, the sky is a lovely shade of brown. That happens when all the ground cover is scraped off.
I've been surprised at the abundance of wild flowers amidst the drought. After a few more days of this 90 plus degree temps, they will not last much longer.
Found an interesting tidbit while doing laundry this morning...
Ever wonder how the Summer Tanager was named and what makes it more summer than the Scarlet Tanager? Seems as though English naturalist Mark Catesby coined the name "Summer Red Bird" to distinguish from "red bird" (Northern Cardinal), which stays all year.
Also located very interesting reference to Theodore Roosevelt as a bird watching president.

Thank goodness for his interest in preserving the birds and for the creation of the National Wildlife Refuge system.
