Need to replace the light fixture over the kitchen sink, drove down to Claremont, NH, about 25 miles south, to closest RV dealer, closed on Mondays. SOOOOO, decided to have fun instead.
Explored the downtown area of Claremont, established in 1764 along the Sugar River and home to numerous mills, manufacturing cotton and woolen textiles, lathes and planers, and paper.
The old factories remain along the river, hard to imagine them being for there for so long.
Wish they could talk, what stories they would tell...
Sugar River still flows with enough force to power all the mills.
The footbridge across the river was a terrific vantage point for observing and appreciating the rushing water. These desert dwellers are relishing in all this greenery and water-scape.
Next stop was Windsor VT bu way of Cornish NH and covered bridge #22
Crossing the Connecticut River back in to Vermont, we crossed Covered Bridge #20, the longest covered bridge in the US and the longest 2 span covered bridge in the world.
Constructed in 1866, it was a toll bridge until 1943.
Glad we didn't have to walk our horses through the bridge...
We visited the Vermont Farmstead cheese store, sampled and bought Smoked Cheddar, Alehouse Cheddar, and Hot Pepper Jelly.
Lunch was fish and chips at Harpoon Brewery along with Summer Ale and IPA. They have 35 or more varieties and we watched the bottling process through the glass windows.
After all that fun, next was grocery shopping at Price Choppers in West Lebanon. Have I mentioned, there's no sales tax in New Hampshire!
